Acid Relux / GERD

Acid reflux is a condition that is affected by stress. There are two sphincters in the esophagus, the upper and lower. Esophageal reflux occurs when the lower sphincter malfunctions, allowing the backward flow of acid, bile and contents of the stomach into the esophagus. The body needs acid in the stomach to break down food, up to 50% of Americans over 60 have a deficiency of stomach acid. The low stomach acid can cause the very same symptoms as esophageal reflux. The true cause needs to be determined in order for the appropriate digestive enzymes to be utilized.
