Sciatica Back Pain
Pills or muscle relaxers can’t correct nerve compression caused by a bulging disc. Sciatica is a distracting pain that begins in the lower back and extends down one or both legs. It typically worsens with periods of sitting or standing.
Trauma can cause one or more discs to bulge crowding nearby nerves, causing irritation and inflammation. Coughing, sneezing or other kinds of movement can be painful. The pain appears in the leg, but the culprit is often the lower back!
Fortunately, improving joint motion in the lower back with a program of chiropractic adjustments has produced results for many people.
It all starts with a consultation and thorough examination. If we think we can help, we’ll tell you. And if we don’t think we can help, we’ll tell you that too and refer you to someone we think can. Get started today.
Tips to Prevent Back Pain
- Maintain a healthy diet and weight.
- Remain active—under the supervision of your doctor of chiropractic.
- Avoid prolonged inactivity or bed rest.
- Warm up or stretch before exercising or other physical activities, such as gardening.
- Maintain proper posture.
- Wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes.
- Sleep on a mattress of medium firmness to minimize any curve in your spine.
- Lift with your knees, keep the object close to your body, and do not twist when lifting.
- Quit smoking. Smoking impairs blood flow, resulting in oxygen and nutrient deprivation to spinal tissues.
- Work with your doctor of chiropractic to ensure that your computer workstation is ergonomically correct.
